Panther D w additional stowage bin on right side

I've found several pictures of Panther D with additional stowage bin on right side of the tank.

So the questions:
Are these modifications factory-made or filed-made?
From what divisions?

Hi reptile, welcome to the forum

the boxes that you are referring to are mounted on early D`s in the Kursk era, but I don't know for sure if it's a field modification

as Nico stated: those boxes are just know in conjunction with tanks from Pz.Abt. 51 and 52 http://panther1944.de/de/sdkfz-171-pzkp ... sicht.html
and the the Kursk operation.
I personally do not know any factory picture showing this box so I think it was troop applied.
